CD: The ClimaX Changes

With the album The ClimaX Changes, pianist and composer Georg Boeßner once again presents himself as a modern, stylistically universal musician with an open attitude and an excellent storyteller. He writes and plays with his own unmistakable voice and a sharp, contemporary view not only of jazz, but also beyond. His wealth of experience in the music landscape as a whole is extraordinary. After working in the music industry and many experiences as a musician and producer, including with Wayne Escoffery, he teaches at various jazz education institutes and currently plays in various Projects, including with Henrik Walsdorff, Max Clouth, Kay Lübke and Jörg Fischer. It all began with a phone call in 2019; Georg Boeßner already had the idea of expanding his existing piano trio (with Alexander Sonntag / bass and Axel Pape / drums) and giving it a new musical direction. With the line-up and the band sound with its dazzling timbres already before his eyes and ears, he was looking for a fourth distinctive instrumentalist. The call then reached Frankfurt guitarist Max Clouth, with whose project Ragawerk Georg Boeßner toured India in the same year and recorded two albums during the pandemic. 2021 then saw the recordings for this album by the Georg Boeßner Vier, supplemented by two contributions from multi-instrumentalist Dirk Kunesch. The music of this opus tells ten different musical stories along an imaginary storyline in changing stylistic landscapes and timbres. Instruments such as Fender Rhodes, synthesizers or the fretless double-neck guitar, electric bass and percussion, but also voice or jew's harp characterize the versatile band sound. The music takes the listener on a global sound journey with echoes of rock, non-European sounds and jazz and is designed to be relatable. Detached from the challenges of this time the sound takes you into an exciting parallel world with a wide range of colors, exciting dynamic progressions and unexpected shades. The sound of the album The ClimaX Changes takes the listener from San Francisco via Woodstock to New Delhi and Goa. The contemporary, ecstatic mixture of Georg Boeßner songs with 70s sound borrowings and Krautrock ingredients takes its listeners straight to nirvana. The curious Music lovers can expect an exciting musical journey that spans time and the world in a very special way.
