CD: Open Up Your Senses

Tyreek McDole
release date: 6 Jun 2025
With "Open Up Your Senses", his eagerly awaited debut album, Tyreek McDole proves himself to be one of the most convincing young jazz singers of his generation. With a rich baritone and deep roots in the jazz tradition, McDole draws inspiration from legendary predecessors such as Johnny Hartman and Leon Thomas - and develops a voice all his own. His first-class band is supported by the exceptional pianists Kenny Barron and Sullivan Fortner.
in 2023, the then 23-year-old Tyreek McDole won the Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, one of the most prestigious singing competitions for young jazz talents - just five years after making his debut as a singer. As a teenager, he played classical drums in the school orchestra and was so intensely involved with the pieces that he was able to stand in for a singer who was ill at a rehearsal and made a big impression on the school's director. "I guess that's when I realized I had a voice." He switched to the jazz band and a short time later was on stage at the famous Lincoln Center, where he performed as a singer for the first time.
