CD: One Guitar Woman

Sue Foley
release date: 28 Mar 2024
Three-time winner of the Blues Foundation Traditional Female Artist Award, Sue Foley's new album "One Guitar Woman" is a heartfelt tribute to the pioneering women of the guitar - including Memphis Minnie, Lydia Mendoza, Maybelle Carter, Ida Presti and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The album showcases Foley's dexterity on acoustic nylon-string guitar while expanding her blues playing to other genres such as piedmont fingerpicking, traditional country, flamenco and classical.
Since I decided to become a professional guitarist, I have always looked for female role models. These are the women who expressed themselves through the instrument back in the 1920s, at the dawn of radio and recorded music. They are the pioneers and visionaries in whose footsteps I am following, says Foley.
