Italian bassist Riccardo Del Fra, born in 1956, has held his own on the international jazz scene for decades as a sensitive and tasteful accompanist as well as a busy bandleader. When he - as he did at Jazzfest Berlin 2013 - with the legacy of legendary jazz trumpeter Chet Baker, he knows exactly what he has to pay attention to and what he is actually doing.
In his younger years, the bassist was a sought-after sideman in international jazz, playing in the bands of Dizzy Gillespie and Art Farmer, among others, until he began working regularly with Chet Baker in 1979 and recorded a total of 12 albums with him. Since then, the history and repertoire of the trumpeter has been one of the great life projects of Riccardo Del Fra, who has lived in Paris since the 1980s.
In a current Franco-German band with the young trumpeter Airelle Besson, Riccardo Del Fra has opened another Baker chapter: "My Chet, My Song".
