Peter Fulda

release date: 14 Jan 2025
The fourth album of the edition with current works by jazz composer Peter Fulda shows a very unique perspective on the jazz tradition. In the piano trio, he uses a broad spectrum of contemporary music concepts to elicit new stories from the so-called “standards”.

In an equal trialogue, the musicians create multi-layered textures, unusual grooves and surprising formal twists.
The trio's approach to its carefully selected repertoire challenges all known conventions.

The selection of standards on icons covers a large part of the repertoire from which the jazz tradition draws:

Body & Soul and My Funny Valentine are certainly among the best-known pieces from the “Great American Songbook”,

Goodbye Pork Pie Hat, Beatrice, Nature Boy and In a Sentimental Mood have each formed their own legends in countless jazz variations over the course of time,

Laura, the title song of the film noir of the same name, developed a second life as a standard ballad,

Lionheart is a borrowing from pop music

and finally, with John Scofield's The Beatles, the trio brings a real rarity to light.

Jazz-Fun.de comments:

"From the very first notes, it is clear that we are dealing here with outstanding musicians* who have honed their craft over many years and expanded their range of expression and know exactly what to expect from each other.

Peter Fulda's playing creates a special atmosphere of closeness, even musical intimacy, which characterizes the entire sound of the trio. The music flows gently and unfolds like a narrative in which the bandleader shares his musical fascinations with us. A great album - we are thrilled!" (Jacek Brun, 08.05.2025)
