Philip Catherine is one of those musicians who has developed a unique and authentic sound throughout his successful career. He only needs to play a single note, and he is instantly recognized. Catherine is certainly one of the greats of Belgian and European jazz. The relationship between Philip and Flagey began almost 20 years ago. It was therefore natural that the Cultural Center organized a concert to celebrate his 75th birthday.
Since Catherine had a "carte blanche" regarding the program, he proposed a surprising line-up: two pianists, two drummers, a trumpet player and, of course, a guitar played by himself. The choice of pieces is equally original: he revived the numbers of his very first recording, and also played newer works and some cover versions. Listening to the album, we immediately notice Catherine's youthful spirit, which makes us completely forget his age. Here is Philip Catherine in all his authenticity - endearing, unpretentious, generous, witty and inspiring. A consummate master of cultivated emotion.
