Originally from Norway Thomas Winther Andersen has lived in Amsterdam for several years.
Next to playing the bass, Thomas also compose and arrange for his bands. Many of his compositions were recorded on CD and for the radio. His oeuvre also include chamber music and work for Big Band. He toured in Europe and the USA with different musicians and bands and also performed solo bass
with dancers in different theater productions.
Players Thomas has worked with are Jimmy Halperin, Lee Konitz , Sheila Jordan, Jasper Blom, Robert Rook, Michiel Borstlap, Hеkon Storm, John Engels and many more.
Thomas studied music at the Amsterdam Conservatory from 1988 to 1993 and then added a Master’s degree a year later from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. In 1995, he received a grant from a Dutch Performing Arts Fund (Fonds voor de podiumkunsten), to study in New York with Sal Mosca.
As a teacher he has taught bass, ensemble and improvisation classes at Norwegian State Academy and at the conservatory of Rotterdam and of Amsterdam.
