Han started playing the drums during his grammar school days and from 1949 on he took part in the monthly jamsessions at the Haarlemse Jazz Club. From 1951 until 1955 he was the drummer of the house orchestra The Jig Rhythme Club.
In 1955 he played in Ted Powder’s Orchestra in the American Forces’ clubs. Han subsequently worked with an array of different orchestras all over Western Europe until he joined the leading AVRO-broadcasting dance orchestra The Skymasters in 1960. Here Han was the regular drummer for more than 11 years and made innumerable recordings with world famous guests such as Cleo Laine, Anita Kerr, The Swingle Singers, Della Reese and Toots Thielemans.
