Following his graduation in organ and composition from the Conservatory in Udine in 1985 he decided to go deep into jazz techniques and took private lessons in Milan with Franco D'Andrea and attended workshops in Italy and in the United States, where he studied on a scholarship at the prestigious Berkley College of Music in Boston with the pianist and composer Ray Santisi.
