Barbara Bürkle is an accomplished singer, composer, arranger, and lyricist in genres ranging from Jazz to Latin.
In 2003 she graduated from University of Music in Mannheim (major in Jazz and Popular Music). In 2008 Barbara won 'Voices Now' in Brussels and she was a semifinalist of the Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition (2009) and Thelonious Monk International Competition in Washington, D. C. (2010), the most prestigious jazz competition in the world.

Barbara Bürkle was born near Stuttgart, Germany in November 1979.

In 1999 she began her vocal studies in Jazz and Popular Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, and successfully completed the program in July 2003. Barbara has worked with renowned teachers such as Sheila Jordan, Norma Winstone, Maria Pia De Vito, Roberta Gambarini, Donna McElroy, Michele Weir, Judy Niemack, Bob Stoloff, Dennis Montgomery III and the New York Voices. Since 2001 she has been a voice instructor in one of the most well-known vocal schools in Germany, Go Vocal, where she teaches children and adults, as well as choirs. 

Barbara Bürkle has also participated in several music productions ranging from Hip Hop and Gospel to Modern Jazz. As a member of the Federal Youth Jazz Orchestra Germany ('BuJazzO'), under the direction of Peter Herbolzheimer, as well as other ensembles, she had toured England, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Poland, Namibia, South Africa, Southeast Asia and throughout Germany. Experience Barbara live with the Barbara Bürkle Quintet, the crossover trio BATIST and Barbara Bürkle & Thilo Wagner - A Fine Romance. For more than three years she has been a member of the A cappella group Klangbezirk with whom she won the internationally acclaimed Ward Swingle Award in Gold (Jazz category) and Silver (Pop category) in July 2006. In 2007 they gained the first prize at the 7th Taiwan International Choral Ensemble Competition and the renowned contest called Jugend Kulturell in Germany. Klangbezirk also won at the International Contest for Vocal Ensembles in 2009 in Tampere, Finland.

 

 As a soloist Barbara won Voices Now - Brussels International Young Jazz Singers Competition in December 2008. In summer 2009 she has been a semifinalist of Shure Montreux Jazz Voice Competition and in fall 2010 she placed forth in the semifinals of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in Washington, D.C.

 

In February 2010 she has released her debut album with the Barbara Bürkle Quintett called Everything Allowed on the German label Neuklang.
