Johan Bylling Lang

Johan Bylling Lang
saxophone
To make it short. I was born 1981 in Denmark and started playing music as 13 years old and graduated as Cand. musicae and saxophonist and music teacher 2008 from fra Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium (RMC) in Copenhagen.
I have a big passion for two kinds of music. On one hand, music with roots in New Orleans like jazz, funk, blues and 2ndline and on the other hand, ska music. I’ve been to fortunate to play these styles for around 15years now in Jazz Five and Babylove & the van Dangos and they’ve taken me to festivals, venues and clubs all over the world. Never bands and projects are Tuesday Night Brass Band, D/Troit and Gasorleans.

I’ve spent a lot of time the recent years writing my own music and2011Johan Bylling Lang Organ Quintet was formed. The music is inspired from travelling in New Orleans and New York and was afterwards added a touch of Scandinavian atmosphere. My debutalbum was released November2012 and entitled “Doin’ my thing”and that is exactly what is going on. Nine out of ten songs are own compositions and the listener will hear New Orleans 2nd line grooves, funky Lonnie Smith and Ronnie Cuber inspired boogaloo and more quiet ballads with a touch of bolero. The albums was followed by ”Up For Grabs” 2014.

The music is of course also inspired by my big heroes of saxophoneplaying: Cannonball Adderly, Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon, Art Pepper, John Coltrane, Donald Harrison Junior and others.

Al this put together is why I love music so much. It is the best way to travel and meet new people and to communicate in the universal language called music, makes it for me. Very simple, but makes life worth living.
