Kristina Brodersen - KRISTINA 4

Kristina Brodersen - KRISTINA 4
I first met Kristina Brodersen when I was involved in workshops in Italy and Kristina
was in her very early twenties. I saw her potential then and watched her mature over
the years. Although married to a wonderful Composer/Pianist Tobias Weindorf, she
has chosen, on this recording not to use piano, it is Kristina on alto saxophone,
Bastian Stein on trumpet, Christian Ramond on bass and Silvio Morger on drums.
I really enjoyed listening to this recording especially I have heard Kristina's growth
over the years. The players she chose are a perfect fit for the direction of the music.
There are so many good compositions on this recording, my initial thought was
Ornette and Don Cherry but even more current the Joe Lovano/Dave Douglas group.
I liked the fact that there are not endless solos and some terrific interplay, the fact
that there is no keyboard gives it space.
It's hard to choose which pieces are my favorite. Moody Person is a lovely ballad and
a pretty alto solo. Kristina's solo approach throughout reminds me of Lee Konitz in
his later years, no wasted notes. Rooftop Kids - fun, happy playful line. In walked Lee

- Really enjoyed listening to the solos and interplay as I did throughout this whole

recording. On & On - Again love the line, this might be one of my favorites. Since I am

not one to critique every piece on a recording please hurry and purchase this CD as

soon as possible. Again, must tell you the originals, the solos and interplay was so

much fun to listen to. A very creative project. .
