A project of the heart with friends
This baritone tone, the range and the way Mulligan played and phrased, in short the sound of Mulligan in all its facets, all this has made Thomas Lay his heart project "The Sound of Gerry Mulligan".
With its excellent rhythm section Andieh Merk (drums, percussionist and saxophonist himself), Markus Springfield (piano) and Heiner Merk (double bass), the quartet is complete. All of them have been successful in jazz in the Lake Constance region, in Upper Swabia and in the Allgäu in several formations for many years.
What "The Sound of Gerry Mulligan" plays is not a copy of the original music. It's not a copy of Mulligan's music, "We want to preserve the sound, not imitate it, but reinterpret it." In addition to many original pieces, original compositions are played, but they carry that legendary sound.
