"Beyond This Place" encompasses all elements of Kenny Barron's musical world, which has been at the forefront of modern jazz for over 60 years. his first album on the Artwork label will be released in 2023, his solo work "The Source" was nominated for a Grammy Award, and this project is a departure from the atmosphere of his previous work
The hybrid quintet structure is as close to orchestral composition as possible, but with a modern jazz twist, and features four of the most acclaimed musicians of the century. Immanuel Wilkins, a rising star on saxophone, Jonathan Blake, one of the finest drummers of his generation, bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa, a longtime collaborator of Kenny Barron, and Steve Nelson, one of the most respected vibraphonists of his generation. The result is a very delicate album that incorporates each format into a multi-layered space.
