Roland Peil starts to play percussion at the age of 10.
1977
He takes classes in classical percussion and drums with Josef Offelder and Richard Herten at the municipal music school in Dueren from 1978 to 1986.
1979
During this period he participates and wins the german national music award
"Jugend musiziert" several times and becomes member of the national youth symphony orchestra "BJO" undertaking recordings and tours in Germany, Spain and Israel.
1984
He also starts studying latinamerican and brasilian percussion on his own and joins the state youth jazz orchestra of Nordrheinwestfalen "LJJO NRW" touring the US and recording their album "Back from the States".
1986
As drummer and percussionist of the YAMAHA Big Band in Hamburg he meets german bigbandleader Peter Herbolzheimer and becomes first percussionist of the "German Jazz Orchestra" (BuJazzO".
1988
He studies jazzdrums and percussion at the State College of Music in Cologne with Michael Küttner between1988 and 1993.
Additionally he takes private lessons with Freddie Santiago (Puerto Rico), Martin Verdonk (Curacao), Gumbi Ortiz (USA), Jose Luis "Changuito" Quintana (Cuba) and attends Workshops with Birger Sulsbrück and Alex Acuna.
1995
He also undertakes intensive studies in Cuba throughout several years.
Since 1988 he lives in Köln, Germany and worked with numerous local bands as well as nationally and internationally known artists.
His interest in any musical genre, musical flexibility great enthusiasm and professionality are his trademarks and have lead him to be one of the most soughtafter percussionists in Europe.
Throughout the last years he became bandmember of "Die Fantastischen Vier, Peter Maffay & Band, Till Brönner & Band, feeds his love for cuban music in his own band Rolands Rumba, tours the world with Gregorian and Sarah Brightman and works as studio- and session musician.
In his musical activities he is being supported by Meinl, Schlagwerk, Roland, Regal Tip, Remo and Sennheiser.
