Jürgen Spiegel has played as a drummer with bands from a wide variety of music styles such as Kurt Elling, Yari Carissi, Dominic Miller, Nneka, Michael Kiske (Helloween) and the NDR Big Band at almost all major German (Hurricane, Rock am Ring) and numerous European festivals . In 2008 he was the first German to compose and produce themed music for the
Aljazeera broadcaster and thereby gained attention in the United Emirates. In 2009 the CD Dubai Nights (Virgin) was produced with compositions by Arab Bedouins. Jürgen Spiegel also works successfully as a producer and composer.
From 2016-2018 he had a teaching position in the master’s course in jazz at the Hamburg University of Music.
With the project with pianist Vladyslav Sendecki, Spiegel plays in the smallest orchestra in the world and reached various jazz charts in 2019.
Jürgen Spiegel was born in Bremen in 1972 and studied at the age of 17 as a young student at the Musikhochschule in Bremen, first drums (1989-92) and then (1992-93) jazz as a student of Charly Antolini. From 1993-98 he studied in Holland at the Hanzehogeschool, the music academy in Groningen. In 1997 Spiegel took the contact course “Popular Music” at the University of Music and Theater in Hamburg. A year later he received a scholarship from the VSB Fonds and studied at the Manhatten School of Music, New York.
With the Tingvall Trio he has so far received three ECHO Jazz, 7 Gold Jazz Awards and the Hamburg Music Prize HANS for the best production of 2011.
