Dirk-Peter Kölsch was born 1969 in the Mosel valley, Germany. He studied at the College of Art in Arnhem, Holland. Within the music scene he is known as a creative musician with an invigorating stage presence. His energy, married to his unconventional style has garnered Dirk-Peter an international reputation. This has been further enhanced with appearance all over the world including festivals in Moscow, Montreal, Malta, Istanbul, Peruggia, Oslo, Budapest, Paris, Berlin and the African continent.
Dirk-Peter is at home on a traditional drumkit but he has always sought to break down musical conventions. He has experimented with creating sound with domestic appliances, toys, a reed organ and computer electronics. Work in these areas has opened doors to the improvised music scene as well as leading to engagements on theatre and radio plays as well as film productions. He has also worked with classical orchestras. Mostly however he plays with various jazz and pop ensembles with whom he has recorded many albums. In his spare time Dirk-Peter is also a guest tutor at music colleges in Germany and Holland.
