Grammy winning critic Bob Blumenthal (Village Voice, Down Beat) described Christian Rovers playing as "rich in melodic imagination and taste". Manfred Pabst (European "Journalist of the year 2006") praises his virtuosity and speaks of "unique soundscapes" and "magical music". After a long stint in the USA, Christian Rover is now establishing himself on the global music scene. A summa cum laude graduate of Berklee College Of Music, Rover captured first prize at DOWNBEAT's "MUSIC FEST USA" among other honors. His unique musical talent as a solo artist, leader and sideman is documented by numerous recordings, radio and television appearances. Rover has toured in the USA, Asia and throughout Europe.
Rover has performed and recorded with some of the biggest names on the international music scene including greats like Pee Wee Ellis, Houston Person, Rhoda Scott, Matt Garrisson and hundreds of musicians from all over the world. He enjoys being active in many styles of music from contemporary to popular, ethnic to all shades of jazz and improvised music. He has worked in settings ranging from solo performances to leading the "Far East Far Out Orchestra", a Japanese / East German Big Band. A skilled composer Rover likes the challenge of writing in contemporary as well as classical context such as arranging the Goldberg Variations for three guitars commissioned by the International Bach Festival.
Christian Rover is also in great demand as an educator. He has worked as a professor in Austria, Finland, Germany and Switzerland and has taught at Berklee College of Music. He has given lectures at the Sibelius Academy, Birmingham Conservatoire and many other renowned institutions around the globe. For many years he has been a contributing writer to major publications such as Gitarre & Bass, Musiker and Fachblatt.
