Workshop: RJS - Jazz Piano 1

Are you a classical musician who wants to play jazz piano and understand jazz theory? Would you like to expand and deepen your piano playing skills and learn in a practical way about the basics of jazz harmony, rhythm and improvisation at the piano? Join our adult jazz learning community and develop your skills and confidence while you gain knowledge and experience and make music together in a supportive workshop setting. This course is taught by Meredith White, the inspiring jazz pianist, composer and songwriter.
Course ContentBy the end of this course, you will be able to:
Play several jazz standards in a jazz style, using harmony and rhythms.
Have strategies for improvisation over simple jazz chord sequences.
Be developing your own jazz vocabulary.
Have an understanding of a range of jazz styles, such as swing, blues and Latin.
Enjoy playing jazz on your own and with others, in class and potentially in an ensemble setting.
Be able to learn by ear and also know how to read a lead sheet.
You will be at a keyboard throughout the class, so concepts can be immediately put into practice.
