Backtracked cut their teeth on a run of successful sold out tribute shows across Europe. Performing jazz reworks of hip hop artists such as J Dilla, Missy Elliot, OutKast, and Erykah Badu. The trio behind DJ Sameeds NTS Radio A live band plays the music of presented a unique blend of fusion jazz reworks and enthralling original compositions. The trio now makes the exciting transition of putting its creative energy into original music.
Debut EP Alphabets
The Berlin trio has just released its debut EP Alphabets. This six track sonic journey draws inspiration from the trios Berlin surroundings, including their early morning commutes on the 104 bus route and the very fabric of the city. Alphabets possesses an angular and edgy quality, reflecting the brutalist building that houses the trios studio.
Creating a feel good sound that is both nostalgic and forward thinking, Alphabets is packed full of breezy melodies, laid back beats meeting mind elevating progressions and ethereal atmospheres. Introspective and reflective, it channels a sense of summer nostalgia of Berlins relaxed, dressed down summer months. The trio explain, Its like the city is slowing down, and youre at peace with it.
MUSICAL STYLE
In addition to drawing inspiration from their urban surroundings, the trios experiences paying tribute to classic artists have played a significant role in shaping Backtrackeds music. They also find inspiration in contemporary acts such as Butcher Brown, Kiefer, and Big Yuki, as well as the thriving Berlin music scene, featuring artists like Yoofee, move 78, and Abase. Currently, Backtracked is in collaboration with Robert Owens, both in the studio and on stage, where they are delving deep into the realm of house music.
Their instrumental and collaborative live performances are hard hitting, danceable, and high energy in nature. All characterized by ample improvisation and a dynamic live sound, both captivating audiences and getting them moving.
EP Reception
In the months following the EP Release three tracks have been featured on the BBC6 Music Focus Beats and Lucas Benjamins Tip44 Playlist. The EP was also premiered by twisted soul music presenting Reflective Song. Coverage was also ran by wordplay magazine and melting pot music.
